Theres so much to love about this book. Even if you aren’t looking to tour the national parks or replicate the trip, it’s interesting, entertaining, easy to read, and very practical.I love the format. I’m personally not a big fan of typical chapters like a novel and this scratches my itch. It’s full of short, easy to read chapters that are broken down clearly with many subtopics. There’s a good mix of relevant stories but not rambling at all. It’s very concisely written and this makes it a great resource too. Although I got the kindle version, I think I’d prefer to have hard copy as a physical resource in my hands that I could book mark, dog ear, add post-its., etc.From general packing lists, to day pack lists, to safety considerations, maps, graphs, charts, etc. there’s lots of helpful and insightful info.Their truck setup is incredible and the diagrams and pictures are great too should I want to replicate that. I’m scratching the surface here.If you’re planning a trip, big or small, the deeper pieces of advice are ones that really can only be discovered with experience. These girls thought through many of the details in planning and share their errors and how they’d do things differently. From general packing lists to daypack lists to conversation starters...so much are helpful advice.As a teacher with summers off and a big family that enjoys camping and the outdoors, there are many valuable tips, insights, and “nuggets” to be extracted. I’m inspired too and it makes me want to take this trip with a friend or perhaps with some of my older children. Thanks for the fun and practical read! If you're planning a similar trip, this book is a must buy. Each chapter concludes with takeaways to ensure you have an easy reference as to what to consider during each stage of planning such a trip. There is even en exhaustive packing list in the appendix to help. They mention their choices and struggles and even some options they considered but didn't choose, so you can decide for yourself while planning such a trip. After reading this book, a trip of this magnitude seems far less daunting then it was when I started reading. Learning from someone else who has done this before and knows what worked and what didn't is invaluable.
